Introduction to the project:
Each student will be provided with a laptop computer that they can use during their time in the program. This will allow the students to continue to work in the classroom and move freely among all the program locations.
The entire project will be designed around social computing, open source community and around the XO laptop. Many students around the world are working on the XO laptop, especially in third world countries. How do you program on them, how can you connect them to the rest of the world, how could you use them to develop an application that you could share with others etc.
By the end of the semester, students will:
- understand the basic computer components of a computer and peripheral devices
- be able to setup a wireless network- connecting a computer to the network
- demonstrate an understanding of a variety of problem solving strategies
- to be able to work and communicate in a team environment
- demonstrate an ability to use basic logic and quality assurance techniques/ documentation when creating computer programs
- be able to create and design a software program following recognized workplace standards (structure chart, flow chart, test programs, debug programs)
